Evansville North Repeats as Team Champion, Lake Central's Miestowski wins Individual Championship

Top-ranked Evansville North successfully repeated as state champion and Lake Central's Alexis Miestowski captured medalist honors during the 43rd Annual IHSAA Girls Golf State Finals at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.
The defending state champion Huskies, coached by Ken Wempe, finished at 651 (332-319) and were led by sophomore Hadley Walts who finished tied for second overall at 151 (79-72). Emma Kieffer, the team's only senior, finished fourth overall at 153 (76-77). Junior Katelyn Le ended at 168 (82-86) and junior Brittany Skinner finished with 167 (95-84). Hannah Davis and Katelyn Skinner split rounds the last two days also and shot 95 and 98, respectively, for the winners.
It was the school's second state title in girls golf and fourth in any sport.
Second-ranked Westfield finished as the runner-up enjoying its best finish ever after a 677 (350-327). Chesterton placed third, its highest finish ever, with a 692 (353-339). Evansville Memorial ended in fourth place at 699 (354-345) and Indianapolis Cathedral took fifth with 700 (356-344). Both tied their school's best state finals placement.
Miestowski birdied six holes this weekend including four on the front nine of Saturday's final round to win the state championship. She shot -3 for 69 on Saturday to finish the tournament with a one-over 145 (76-69). She became the first state golf medalist in her school's history - girls or boys. The sophomore began the day one stroke back and tied for second place with three others behind Lafayette Central Catholic's Morgan Brown (75). Brown finished at 156 (75-81) for sixth place.
Defending champion Cherise Otter, a senior from Bloomington South, finished tied as the runner-up with Evansville North's Walts at 151 (76-75). After Kieffer in fourth place, Kiley Swisher, a senior from Seeger, rounded out the top five at 155 (76-79).
Of special note, Fishers sophomore Morgan Lewis used a pitching wedge to score a hole-in-one on the par-3, 12th hole from 109 yards away on Saturday. It was the first ace ever recorded in girls golf state finals history. She completed the weekend tied for 21st overall with a 166 (84-82).
Both days of the tournament were played under dreary, overcast skies with gusty winds and temps in the mid-to-high 40s. Rain also fell at times during Saturday's second round.

Boys Spring Preview Information & Application
, Prairie View Golf Club is the host of the IHSAA Boys & Girls Golf State Finals. With Westfield High School serving as administrator and host for the Spring Preview, we are happy to offer an outstanding opportunity for your team to compete at Prairie View Golf Club as prep for a possible run to the IHSAA State Finals.
Moving forward, the Spring Preview will be hosted the second weekend of May each spring. If your team would like to participate in this full field event, please see protocol and application below.
Girls Hall of Fame Invitational Information
On Saturday, August 27, 2016, Greensburg High School will host the 2016 Girls Golf Hall of Fame Classic. The tournament will be held at Greensburg Country Club. If your girls golf team is interested in participating in the Classic, please complete the Application For Invitation and mail or email it on or before February 28, 2016 to:

The Application will help the Selection Committee determine if a particular team is likely to participate in the 2016 State Finals. The Classic is intended to be a preview of the State Finals field and the teams likely to participate in the 2016 State Finals will be given special consideration. Please feel free to send me an e-mail if you have any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org. The Selection Committee will select the participating teams in early March 2016.
2016 Girls Fall Preview Information
On August 6, 2016, Carmel High School and Prairie View Golf Club will host the 2016 Girls Golf Fall Preview. The tournament will be held at Prairie View Golf Club. The 15 teams that competed in the 2015 State Championship have an automatic exemption into the field and do not need to complete an Application For Invitation. Only teams that did not complete in the 2015 State Championship need to complete the Application. The Application will help the Selection Committee select the three to six openings available. Preference will be given to teams that submit the Application on time and show that they are likely to participate in the 2016 State Championship. The Fall Preview is intended to be a preview of the State Championship field and the teams likely to participate in the 2016 State Championship will be given special consideration.
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. The tour’s vision is to provide superb hospitality and make every event a memorable one. With play open to both males and females, nearly every junior golfer is eligible to participate on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Currently the HJGT is the largest junior golf tour in the United States hosting more 2-day nationally ranked events than any other tour. The HJGT has been able to achieve this goal by running the most professional events and providing an exceptional value to all of our players and families over the last 8 years.
